After being let down by the clamp-on bulb/D-battery models found at Wal-Mart, I searched around the internet until I found these: http://www.duckworksbbs.com/hardware/electrical/il-560-111x/index.htm
I'm very pleased with these things so far.
I bought the flange-mount model and since I can't find a suitable place to mount the stern light on the narrow transom of my Gheenoe, I merely wear the stern light stuffed into the adjusting strap on the back of my ball cap.
While I seldom actually go boating at night, there are times when I prefer to get a very early start in the predawn darkness.
These lights seem excellent for that. |

I've had these lights for about a year. They've been sitting in my dry box unused, since I bought them.
Went out early Sunday morning a few weeks ago and they worked like a champ.
Batteries were still good and they're very tight, so no leakage
Good investment if you don't want permanent lights on your Gheenoe. |

Ditto those one's that run on D cell, I have often wondered why someone did not make a quality portable light, thank's for sharing.
Oh and wearing the stern light on the back of a cap, that's a real pro tip. |

I've been very pleased with mine. I found them on Ebay for about $12 each. The only complaint I had was the clamp on the stern light broke. I mounted the pole directly to the transom with a couple of screws until I get time to fix it.
Battery life is much better than the ones with D-cells and regular bulbs too. A must for early morning duck hunts. |
